practice gratitude in wood type

One of the simplest ways to get a boost of happiness is to reflect for a couple of minutes about things you’re grateful for in your life. Could be a person, maybe it’s an accomplishment or some good news, perhaps a simple joy or something you’ve learned. It’s too easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day hassles and forget to stop and appreciate the good things.

I try to take some time every Friday to write down three quick things I’m grateful for during the previous week. Here’s what I’ve got this week:

1. A last-minute dinner with two of my college boys. So good to hug them for the first time in almost a month!

2. My awesome, talented hair colorist! For weeks, I’ve had an acute case of the uglies…when I left Kyle, I felt like a million bucks.

3. My Rhode Island family and community. Being with them in worship and celebration is always the warmest hug.

See? That wasn’t hard or profound. Give it a try sometime. You may struggle to think of one thing; or maybe you’ll come up with ten right away! Either way, it’s a short, personal happy break from the daily grind.
