Notes: Very pretty room in the Peninsula Hotel, tastefully furnished. Beautiful views of Fifth Avenue. Excellent breakfast, brunch and lunch.

Sparks Steak House

Sparks Steak House Steak | Midtown East

210 E 46th St (bet 2nd & 3rd)

212.687.4855

http://sparkssteakhouse.com

Notes: Once a venerable old classic, the food has gone somewhat downhill and the space has expanded, making the restaurant noisy and bustling. Their salad dressing, though, remains legendary.

Tao

Tao Asian | Midtown East

42 E 58th St (bet Madison & Park)

212.888.2288

http://taorestaurant.com/

Notes: The food is good, but more impressive is the cool ambiance, great club-like music, and the towering golden Buddha floating over the koi pond.

Park Avenue…

Park Avenue… New American | Midtown East

100 E 63rd St (bet Lex & Park)

212.644.1900

http://parkavenyc.com/winter/#

Notes: The menu, the decor and the name completely transform with the season. The restaurant closes briefly at the end of each season to prepare for the next.

La Mangeoire

Sushi Yasuda

Sushi Yasuda Sushi | Midtown East

204 E 43rd St (bet 2nd & 3rd)

212.972.1001

www.sushiyasuda.com

Notes: Among the very best quality sushi in the city with some of the freshest, most pristine fish. Not a place for those who like wacky rolls and giant slabs of fish. Be on time for your reservation, and don’t be surprised to be asked to leave when your time is up so the next diners can be seated.

Shun Lee Palace

Shun Lee Palace Chinese | Midtown East

155 E 55th St (bet Lex & 3rd)

212.371.8844

www.shunleepalace.com

Notes: High-end Chinese food in a lovely atmosphere with refined service. We often drive an hour into the city on a Sunday evening for the superb Peking duck carved table-side, and we’re always warmly welcomed by name at the door. It’s a family tradition we’re happily passing on to the third generation.
